Congo (DRC): Urban centres: Avoid protests on 3 September over repeated delays in organising presidential election
Last Updated: 22 Aug 2017 02:59 (GMT) Members in the capital Kinshasa and other urban centres on 3 September should avoid planned nationwide rallies organised by the Rassemblement opposition coalition due to the credible risk of unrest. The group is demanding that President Joseph Kabila step down and has denounced repeated delays in organising the presidential elections, originally scheduled for 2016. Further details are unavailable at this time, though such demonstrations are likely to be well attended. The demonstrations are preceded by a series of political meetings which began on 20 August; these have so far passed off without incident.
